Tree Farm Inspector of the Year  

Charlie Knoeller and Matthew Coleman.
Charlie Knoeller, Forester for Westmoreland-Richmond Counties, was named 2009 Virginia Tree Farm Inspector of the Year at the Virginia Forestry Association annual convention. The event took place at the Marriott Waterfront in Norfolk. Charlie accepted his award, a nice plaque with a gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops, while attending the meeting with his wife Kathryn. He has been an active Tree Farm Inspector for over 20 years. The recognition shows Charlie’s dedication to the program and commitment to his landowners.
   
2009 Outstanding Logger of the Year: Scott Hillman Timber Products  

Scott Hillman has been around the logging and sawmilling business for most of his life, working in the mountains of Southwest Virginia.

 

 Scott Hillman Timber Products started as a one man non mechanized operation and has grown to a four employee mostly mechanized operation. Scott is proud of his occupation and exhibits a professional demeanor in dealing with landowners, timber companies and the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF). He is proud that nearly half of his harvest in the last five years has been SFI certified on nonindustrial private lands. Scott Hillman Timber Products was nominated by Russell Proctor, VDOF Water Quality Specialist and Matt Kimbler, VDOF Technician for Scott County.
