VFA has benefited from
Harrell Turner’s dedication and leadership since 1975.This
year, Turner was selected as VFA’s Outstanding Member. In
presenting the award, Warren Beale, President of Manry
Rawls, described Turner as “a positive force—both in the
forestry industry and in his community.”
Turner graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree
in forestry in 1971 and began a 33-year career with Union
Camp/International Paper until retiring in 2004. He was the
Virginia Area Team Leader, representing International Paper
on Virginia’s Sustainable Forestry Initative. He also served
on the state’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative
Implementation Committee. Upon his retirement, Turner formed
CHT Forestry LLC, a forestry consulting business.
As a VFA member, Turner has served in several capacities,
most recently as 2005-2006 President. He has chaired
committees for Goverment Relations, Nominations, Personnel
and the Annual Convention. Turner’s other professional
memberships include: Society of American Foresters, Forest
Resources Association, Association of Consulting Foresters
and Forest Council of Virginia. Turner currently serves as
the chair of the Virginia Board of Forestry.
