Virginia Forestry Association Seeks Events and Communications Coordinator 

VFA is seeking a full-time Events and Communications Coordinator. The person hired will work in VFA’s Richmond office, reporting to the Executive Director.

Primary Duties: 

  • Plan and execute the Virginia Forestry Summit, VFA’s three day annual convention for over 200 attendees including but not limited to:
    • Site research and selection, hotel/venue contract negotiation, room block and meeting logistics
    • Program development with support of Planning Committee
    • Speaker communication and management
    • Registration and marketing materials management
    • Exhibit and sponsor coordination and communication
    • Food and beverage and audiovisual needs coordination
    • Contract and coordinate with venue for Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings and retreats.
    • Plan and execute additional member recruitment and retention events.
    • Collect material in support of, produce, edit, and distribute electronic communications including monthly member e-newsletter, advocacy action alerts, printed newsletters and new member communications.
    • Maintain and update VFA website and social media pages.
    • Assist Director of Member Services and Finance with VFA membership database management, accounting, and weekly banking assistance.
    • Perform duties to assist with office management and programs, projects, and services as assigned.

Requirements: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, work independently in a team-based environment, patience and flexibility with changing goals and requests.
  • Meeting planning and communications experience required, association management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google software required, experience with MemberClicks Association Management Software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the state alone or with other staff. 
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Virginia Forestry Association Seeks Programs Coordinator 

VFA is seeking a full-time Programs Coordinator. The person hired will work in VFA’s Richmond office, reporting to the Executive Director, and working to serve various forestry and natural resource-related programs sponsored or supported by the association.

Primary Duties: 

  • Coordinate the Virginia Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee including meeting agenda and minutes preparation, budget management, member communication, outreach event organization, website maintenance, and report submission.
  • Work with the Virginia Tree Farm Foundation Board of Directors to administer the American Tree Farm System program in Virginia including database management, inspection coordination, entry, approval and tracking, inspector training workshop facilitation, inspector and Tree Farmer communication, meeting preparation, outreach event organization, website maintenance, grant application preparation, and report submission.
  • Attend Virginia Project Learning Tree Advisory Committee and other supported programs meetings.
  • Assist Executive Director in membership outreach, project or issue management, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assist Executive Director in fostering and maintaining state and national partner relationships.
  • Perform duties as needed to assist with VFA office management, membership database, communications, annual convention, and other ongoing projects and services as necessary and assigned.

Requirements: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, work independently in a team-based environment, patience and flexibility with changing goals and requests.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google, and database management software, eagerness to learn new technology.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the state alone or with other staff. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in a forestry or natural resources discipline is preferred.
  • Formal work experience is not required, but evidence of extracurricular activity or post graduate work related to the responsibilities of the position is preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-profits, office management and accounting procedures preferred.
